What are the precautions to be taken when using load cells?

In order to ensure the performance of an industrial electronic scale, it is not enough to consider how to select the load cell and the weighing instrument. The load connecting device for the load cell is also one of the most important aspects in determining the performance of an electronic scale, many electronic scales do not meet the design requirements, which is usually caused by the improper selection of the load connecting device.

The main function of the load connecting device is to ensure that the weight of the material carried by the scale body can be transferred to the load cell according to the force method of the load cell without introducing any extraneous interfering forces carrying the weight of the material. The scales mentioned here can be hoppers, silos, tanks, weighing platforms, weighing bins, metering belts, metering roller tables, etc., or even part of the application equipment, e.g. a block for fixing pulleys travelling cranes, frames for steel (iron) water tankers, etc.

1. To ensure that the load line of the loading connection unit coincides with the force axis of the load cell and to overcome the effects of tilting loads and eccentric loads on the measuring performance caused by mounting problems, a mounting tool should be used to ensure this if necessary.

2. If the electronic scale is subjected to excessive horizontal and lateral impacts during use, which will exceed the resistance to lateral forces or the self-resetting capacity of the load connecting device, consider designing or adding special limiting devices to the load connecting device;

3. electronic scales that are seriously affected during loading should have an overload protection device added to the load connecting device or an additional overload protection structure;

4. a current bypass device may be added to the load connecting device in order to prevent large currents from flowing directly through the load cell body and damaging the load cell. A current bypass device made of braided copper wire should be selected and bolted to compress the ends of the load connecting device.

5. The connection between the pull-type load connecting device and the scale body and the mounting frame of the scale should be firm; the contact between the compression-type load connecting device and the scale body as well as the mounting base of the scale should be smooth;

6. Example of the application of hopper load cells and loading connections: the use of 3 load cells to form a hopper scale reduces the stiffness requirements of the hopper and the hopper mounting frame, making the system easy to install and commission, and easy to obtain results with high accuracy and good stability.

Industrial electronic scales consist mainly of steel structures, which expand and contract due to temperature changes. For higher requirements, a combination of fixed, semi-floating and fully floating load connections can be used.
